When Should I Book My Minneapolis Newborn Session?
One of the most common questions I hear from expecting parents is: “How early should we book our newborn session?”
The short answer? Earlier than you think. Planning ahead ensures availability, flexibility, and the best possible experience during one of the most fleeting seasons of your life.
Let’s walk through exactly when to book your newborn photos and why timing matters so much.
When Are Newborn Photos Best Taken?
Newborn photography sessions are best photographed within the first 7–14 days after birth. During this window, babies are:
- Naturally sleepier
- More easily posed
This stage allows for those soft, peaceful images so many parents love. While beautiful photos can absolutely be created beyond two weeks, the classic newborn look is best achieved during this early timeframe.
When Should You Book Your Newborn Photographer?
To secure that ideal 7–14 day window, I recommend booking your newborn session during your first or second trimester.
Why so early?
- I accept a limited number of newborns each month
- Sessions are scheduled around due dates, not exact calendar dates
- Early booking guarantees priority and flexibility once baby arrives
When you reserve your spot, we pencil in your due date and then finalize your actual session date after your baby is born – no pressure, no rushing.
What If Baby Comes Early or Late?
Babies run on their own schedules! That’s why flexibility is built into my newborn process.
Once your baby arrives, you’ll simply notify me, and we’ll choose the best session date based on how you and your baby are doing. Everything is designed to support real life, not rush it.
